Devblog 5


Not much has happened since the last blogpost. We had two weeks of “vacation” that we used to spend time on other projects. Most of the time we did work on the game was enhancing some existing features and mechanics of the game.

More Interactables

Last week we added the last interactables to the game, the computer and the phone. The Computer adds a new mechanic, it can be sabotaged by throwing water over it.

You can get water from the new water dispenser in the office. This machine hands out infinite cups of water to sabotage the computer or to throw at people!

The last of the interactables is the phone, this one can be used to receive phone calls. It can be sabotaged by cutting the cord and repaired by using some tape to attach the two end together.

We also spent some time on fixing issues with the already existing interactables in the office. As an example, when you pickup an item you are standing on it can catapult you into space!

While its a lot of fun going to space, you where not supposed to catapult yourself to it by picking up a piece of paper.

We also fixed some of the obviously broken things in the game. The office chairs.

What game has office chairs you can’t push around? Only the terrible ones, so we fixed that.

Particles


We made sure that before the break we fixed the previous made particles. There was an odd problem with the colors but because we derped a bit we saw that we forgot to give the particles an emissive color so that for example the fire particle would be brighter.

We also made a few new particles like the spotted-particle, the repairing-particle and the got hit-particle.

Materials

To alleviate on of the issues we had before with displaying the players/interactables at all times, we introduced a custom depth pass. This ensures that the players and interactables get rendered through the wall, albeit with a different material of course :D.

Animations

Now finally the characters are able to bend forward to pick up their beloved cup of coffee and to walk around with it like a normal human being instead of the coffee floating in front of them. And if you are being naughty again, the supervisor now also has the animation to spot you ;).

In the remaining two weeks of the last production sprint we need to spend some time working the menus and sound.
